Herbert M. Chain, MBA, CPA, is a shareholder, assigned to our Professional Standards Group, which is responsible for reviewing the firm’s attest engagements and ensuring adherence to all professional standards.
With approximately 45 years of business, audit and accounting experience, Herb has managed significant audit engagements relating to public and private clients in the financial services and other industries. He has broad knowledge of the financial services sector, including asset management and insurance, as well as extensive expertise in financial reporting and controls consulting, including IPO readiness, enterprise risk management, financial due diligence services and litigation and dispute resolution services. Herb has developed a deep understanding of governance processes and responsibilities through board and committee interactions and has earned an NACD Directorship Certification and a Certificate in Private Company Governance from the Private Directors Association.
Herb was a senior audit partner at a Big Four accounting firm until mandatory retirement in 2015. After that he was the principal and managing member of his own consulting business. He has also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Accountancy at St. John’s University and led the Tobin Center for Executive Education.
Herb has served on a number of public and private company boards of directors as audit committee chair or member.
